I have been practising Iyengar Yoga for over 26 years and have been living and working in the local area for the past 12 years. I was awarded an Intermediate level teaching certificate in 2006 and then spent 3 years training to provide both individual/small group tuition and support in general classes to people with a range of physical or health conditions. Simple props such as chairs and wood/foam blocks are used to help adjust or support people so that the movements are safe and effective. In February, this year, I spent the month in India further developing my practice and teaching at the world-famous Ramanani Iyengar Yoga Institute.
I teach a wide range of people, men and women, of all ages. Classes range from beginner to intermediate, pregnancy to post-natal. I also run various workshops, e.g. for asthma, neck and back

My students often tell me that they feel refreshed and relaxed after their yoga class. This is because as well as toning muscles and joints, yoga movements improve the functioning of the inner organs and systems of the body such as the circulatory, digestive and nervous systems, leading to an energized, yet relaxed body and mind.
A student said that “The nature of my work often brings with it high levels of stress and one of the many benefits of yoga is that it relaxes both the body and the mind.”
In the UK, the Iyengar Yoga Association organizes the training of teachers, who will already have practiced Iyengar Yoga for a minimum of 3 years. There is a two-year assessed course for the Introductory Certificate and a further three-year assessed course for the higher level Intermediate Certificate. The trademark (shown left) is only available to qualified Iyengar Yoga teachers.
